Decreasing maternal and infant mortality during pregnancy and childbirth

GYN & PERINATAL ZURICH > Decreasing maternal and infant mortality during pregnancy and childbirth

Prof. Dr. med. Christian Breymann is committed to the Black Lion Hospital in Ethiopia: With his own project, he supports the women's clinic at the university hospital in Adis Ababa both financially and personally. The support is for medicines, surgical materials and training.

At least twice a year, Prof. Breymann visits the gynaecological clinic himself and passes on his knowledge theoretically and practically: with lectures, practical lessons and participation in doctor's rounds and operations. Likewise, once or twice a year there is a one to two-week exchange programme in which interested doctors come to Switzerland for further training.

For pregnant women and babies

Practical teaching focuses mainly on ultrasound diagnostics in mothers and foetuses. Prof. Breymann is also in the process of setting up training in fetomaternal medicine, based on the Swiss Academy for Fetomaternal Medicine. Fetomaternal medicine deals with the care of pregnant women with high birth risks and health risks for the unborn child.

The primary goal of Prof. Breymann's commitment is to reduce the mortality of mothers and children during pregnancy and birth, which is still very high in Ethiopia.
