Gynaecology and Women's Health

Our centre for gynaecology specialises in women's problems or diseases in all phases of a woman's life. This includes care and counselling in the girlhood and adolescence, questions of contraception, family planning and the desire to have children.

Healthy ageing in the premenopause, menopause and later life. Our offer lies in preventive examinations, but also the entire spectrum of diagnostics and therapy of women's diseases and complaints.

You have the choice between two experienced specialists: Dr Nancy Frey and Prof Christian Breymann. We look for individual solutions for you and listen to you carefully.

Gynaecology and Women's Health Square

Adolescent Gynaecology

Adolescent gynaecology is an important part of gynaecology and should be offered by gynaecologists in particular. When puberty is reached and menstruation begins, young girls often have questions and problems that can be discussed or examined very well with a gynaecologist.

HPV and Dysplasia Consultation for Cervical Changes

The human papilloma virus (HPV) can cause changes in the tissue of the cervix, in the worst case cervical cancer. For this reason, the so-called "cancer smear test" is regularly carried out as part of the preventive medical check-up for women. Both slight changes in the tissue (dysplasia) and more severe changes must be thoroughly examined and clarified.

In the HPV / dysplasia consultation, changes in the cervix are thoroughly examined under a special microscope (colposcope); specific tissue samples can also be taken from the changed areas in the colposcope. Due to her long experience in colposcopy, Dr Frey is able to provide competent advice and clarification.

HPV Vaccination

For some years now, it has been possible to vaccinate young girls against the virus before their first sexual intercourse and those who are not yet HPV carriers. This vaccination is the first vaccination against cancer worldwide.

It is recommended that such a vaccination be carried out for your daughter, for example. Please contact us for advice on this.

Contraception Consultations

The appropriate contraceptive method for a girl or young woman is very important and should be addressed and discussed before sexual intercourse begins.

Thorough counselling on the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods and a gynaecological examination should be done before using contraceptives.

Conservative Gynaecology

In gynaecology, there are many disorders and diseases that are treated conservatively, i.e. not with the help of surgery.

This concerns, for example, hormonal disorders, treatment for reduced fertility, the menopause, infections, contraception. In addition, preventive examinations are also part of conservative gynaecology.

Treatment of Inflammation

Inflammations sometimes occur in the area of the external but also the internal genitalia, which are often harmless but usually very disturbing. These can often be treated simply by using the right medication and thus treating the inflammation in a targeted way (e.g. itchy fungal disease of the vagina).

Other infections can be dangerous (e.g. chlamydial infection), they have to be treated and you have to have a check-up after the treatment so that you can be relatively sure that there will be no long-term damage (e.g. limited fertility after inflammation of the fallopian tubes).

Laser treatment for bladder problems

We now offer laser treatment with the Mona Lisa CO2 laser for bladder problems, especially urinary leakage. This treatment has a high success rate, is simple and complication-free and can be an alternative to surgery. We would be happy to inform you.

Clarification of Bladder Problems and Incontinence

A common reason for visiting the gynaecologist is bladder problems such as bladder weakness with urine leakage, frequent urge to urinate ("irritable bladder") or pain when urinating.

With the help of a detailed conversation, a medical history and a simple examination, it is often possible to find out the cause of the disturbing complaints and often start treatment.

Occasionally, a more detailed clarification (urodynamic examination) is required, for which we can gladly refer you to a specialist.

Counselling in case of unwanted pregnancy

Pregnancy does not always mean unrestricted anticipation and is accepted as a welcome event.

Health or other problems can lead women to question pregnancy or consciously decide against it. In such cases, in-depth counselling is necessary to show solution strategies and / or possible alternatives and enable a viable decision.

This counselling takes place in a calm atmosphere in our practice. If a woman decides against carrying a pregnancy to term, she will be accompanied by us during the further treatment steps.

Preventive examinations (screening)

The preventive medical check-up, also called screening examination, serves the early detection and, at best, the prevention of diseases.

In gynaecology, both the anamnesis, the medical interview, and the targeted physical/gynecological examination are used to find out about risks and to specifically detect diseases in their early stages.

A good example of this is regular cancer smear tests (see above).

Gynaecological ultrasound examinations

A painless and harmless examination is the gynaecological ultrasound examination.

This method allows us to easily obtain a lot of information about the internal organs, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and bladder. The examination can be done at any time and without preparation.

Breast ultrasound according to DEGUM criteria (certified)

Prof. Dr. Breymann has completed the course of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM) for breast ultrasound (mammary sonography) and is certified for this.

As part of the preventive check-ups for women, mammary sonography is a very important imaging examination to exclude malignant lumps in the breast.

Gynaecological operations and minimally invasive surgery

Prof. Breymann has many years of experience in gynaecological surgery. Whenever possible, surgical procedures are performed "minimally invasive". The possibilities and limits of minimally invasive surgery will be thoroughly discussed with you. Surgical interventions are performed at the Hirslanden, Hirslanden Im Park, Bethanien Clinic and Pyramid Clinic according to your wishes.

If an operation is necessary in the case of cancer, this is carried out together with the Oncology Team of the Hirslanden Tumour Centre. This applies to malignant diseases of the breast (link. Breast Centre) as well as of the uterus or ovaries.
