CEE Iron Academy 2021 - Meeting Highlights
Iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA)
Prof. Breymann was invited as a speaker and internationally recognised expert on iron deficiency in women at the first Central Eastern European (CEE) Iron Academy meeting on 5-6 November. The meeting was organised by the Polish Medical Association.
The target groups of the lectures are cardiologists, obstetricians & gynaecologists, specialists in internal medicine and gastroenterologists, as well as specialists with an interest in the problem of "iron deficiency". The congress was a very exciting opportunity for cross-regional and cross-disciplinary discussions on the management of iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA).
The most important lessons from the meeting:
- Iron deficiency with or without anaemia adversely affects clinical outcomes in several conditions
- It is important that more doctors from different medical specialties (i.e. cardiologists, obstetricians & gynaecologists, internal medicine specialists, gastroenterologists, etc.) understand the management of iron deficiency - not just haematologists
- There is an urgent need to raise awareness about iron deficiency and the effective treatment of this condition among doctors working in both hospitals and outpatient facilities in the CEE region.
